Legendary musician David Bowie died Sunday at 69, and tributes have been pouring in since the news was released. Feeling a little nostalgic, Times staffers took a dive into the archives.

In 1972, tickets to see the “freaky superstar” in Seattle cost $4. Really. (That would be about $23 today.)

And in ’77, Bowie accompanied an Iggy show, successfully not stealing the spotlight from his protege as he played keyboards almost anonymously.
