Dig out the lawn chairs and picnic blankets — the Puget Sound region’s outdoor film fests are popping up all over from Auburn to Everett.

“I am Groot.”

Last year it was “Frozen”; this year it’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Big Hero 6.” The 2014 whiz-bang, comic-book adventure, starring Chris Pratt, and Disney’s 2014 animated feature about a boy and his robot will be all over outdoor movie screens this summer. So will “Paddington,” “Maleficent” and “Penguins of Madagascar” (and never fear, “Frozen” will make a couple appearances, hopefully to cool things down).

Over at the Fremont Outdoor Cinema, the programmers really like Will Ferrell. No less than four of his big-screen comedies will unspool there (along with their sixth annual “Dude Fest: The Big Lebowski”).

The season gets under way this week with outdoor screens popping up all over the Puget Sound area and ends about two months later with a showing of “Annie” at the Cascade Playground in the South Lake Union neighborhood.

In between are dozens of films, most of them free (except where noted), at parks and parking lots all around Seattle and beyond. Schedules are subject to change, and screenings may be canceled due to rain. Call ahead to confirm. Then grab a blanket or chair (and maybe your favorite talking tree or robot), and get ready for some cinema under the stars.
