Seattle Children's Festival; Fremont Oktoberfest; Luminata at Green Lake; last weekend of the Washington State Fair.
This weekend, toast fall with music and fun at Seattle Children’s Festival for kids on Saturday, Sept. 22, beer for adults at Fremont Oktoberfest Friday through Sunday, Sept. 21-23, and the glowing Luminata parade for all Saturday, Sept. 22, at Green Lake.
The Seattle Children’s Festival at Seattle Center is hosted by Northwest Folklife, and, like Folklife, is full of performances from many cultures. Music and dance on five stages include African drumming and dancing, Bollywood dance and popular kindie rocker Caspar Babypants. Discovery Zones host activities including multicultural storytelling, arts and crafts, and workshops in Irish dancing, hula, instruments and more.
Meanwhile, Fremont Oktoberfest is an adults-only, German-style beer festival featuring more than 100 varieties from local breweries and authentic German beers. If you’re not a beer drinker, there’s hard cider and wine, along with food vendors, DJs and an indoor Beer Hall and Sports Bar, where you can cheer on your favorite teams on jumbo-sized screens. Dogs are only allowed at Sunday’s Dogtoberfest, with the annual CityDog Magazine Cover Dog Model Contest at 3 p.m.
All are invited to celebrate the autumn equinox Saturday, Sept. 22, at Luminata, an illuminated farewell to summer, greeting fall on a walk around Green Lake with colorful lanterns, glowing umbrellas and luminous costumes. Art installations, music and performances around the lake path add to the festivities, starting with the Opening Ceremony and Performance at the Aqua Theater.
