Weekend Highlight

The holidays are quickly approaching and, if you haven’t finished all your shopping yet, you might be panicking. The good news is there’s still time to get those last few items on your list, while also having some fun in the process. Avoid the crowded malls and check out these two holiday markets instead.

Winter Solstice Holiday Night Market/Beer Festival

Celebrate the arrival of winter while you shop, eat and drink your way through the Winter Solstice Holiday Night Market and Beer Festival. The event will take place Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-21, at Magnuson Park Hangar 30 from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The market will feature more than 150 booths and food trucks. For those who prefer to shop local, this event will be a great opportunity to do so. Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt, Glass Eye Studio and Darling Little Accents are a few of the local vendors you can expect at the market.

The Winter Solstice Beer Festival will feature seasonal brews and drinks, along with live music from DJ Swervewon, The True Romans and The Mystery Market Band, all in a heated tent. Ugly Christmas sweaters are encouraged! A general-admission ticket is $10 and gets you entry, a commemorative glass and one full pour (16 ounces) or nonalcoholic beverage for designated drivers. For $25, you will be granted entry, eight beer tokens for tastings, a commemorative glass and a drinking glass. Tickets will be sold at the door for $35. To avoid the higher price and waiting in the cold, it is recommended to purchase tickets online prior to the event. Proceeds from the festival benefit the Seattle Farmer’s Market Association’s Farmer Relief Fund.

The beer festival is 21 and over only, but all ages are welcome at the market. For those who aren’t interested in the market but want to get in on the food trucks, a small selection will be inside the beer garden. However, food purchased at the market can be brought into the garden. Bainbridge Brewing, Seattle Cider Co. and Pike Brewing Co. are just a few of the local brewers slated to serve up drinks at the event.

United Indians Holiday Art Market

Shop for authentic Native American art, crafts and food at the 2019 United Indians Holiday Art Market. The event will be held Friday through Sunday, Dec. 20-22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center.

The market will feature items of varying price points from different tribes, cultures, styles and media. Clothing, jewelry, woodwork, drums and art prints are just a few of the items shoppers can expect to find. A salmon lunch and Indian tacos will also be available for purchase.

Entertainment from Native performing artists will occur each day at 1 p.m.
