The Evergreen State Fair, Aug. 23-Sept. 3.
It’s opening weekend at the Evergreen State Fair, with farm animals, carnival rides, concerts, horse shows, lumberjacks and loads more fun for all ages, Aug. 23 through Sept. 3 in Monroe.
Carnival rides are always a favorite, whether you’re a thrill-seeker, entertaining little kids, or just feel like taking a spin on the Giant Wheel or classic Merry-Go-Round. Farm-animal exhibits are another must for most fairgoers, featuring all manner of beasts, from goats, cattle, poultry, alpacas, pigs and sheep, to rabbits, cats and dogs. The Equestrian Arena hosts 4H horse events through Aug. 30, a Mini Horse Show on Sept. 3, and other events, along with Draft Horse shows through Aug. 29.
At a variety of contests, attendees can show off their talents, including those that may not usually be socially acceptable — such as belching, in an official contest on Friday, Aug. 24. For a more sedate option, an egg toss will follow, on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Exhibits around the grounds include the Snohomish County Agriculture Display, Antique Tractors, Chainsaw Carvers, NW District Beekeepers, NW Native American Totem Poles, Quil Ceda Carvers, Monroe Historical Society and WSU Master Gardeners. Along with concert headliners, the Courtyard Stage and Lumberjack Shows will provide free entertainment daily at 4 and 7 p.m.
