Weekend Highlight

It technically may still be fall, but winter-themed events are in full swing. Get in the spirit of the season this weekend with these two festivals.

Winter Beer Festival

Beer lovers rejoice and come thirsty to this Washington Brewers Guild 21-and-over tasting event on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, at Warren G. Magnuson Park Hangar 30.

With 42 statewide breweries serving up 142 holiday-season brews, there will be no shortage of beers to try. Cloudburst Brewing from Seattle, 7 Seas Brewing from Tacoma and Aslan Brewing Co. from Bellingham are just a few of the breweries set to feature their beers at the event.

You can use your tasting tokens on dark, malty stouts, coffee beers and more. There will also be food to purchase from local food trucks and Brewmaster’s Bakery.

In addition to enjoying all the sips and treats, you can knock out some holiday shopping while you’re at it at the gift shop.

Rumor has it Santa will make an appearance for photos! You might even see some snow indoors, too — it is a winter event after all!

Admission includes a tasting glass and eight 5-ounce beer tastes. Additional tokens can be purchased for $2 each. Designated-driver admission is $5 and available at the door only.

Winter Festival & Crafts Fair

The Phinney Center is hosting the 39th Annual Winter Festival & Crafts Fair on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shop for specialty items from more than 120 hand-picked local artists and makers. The event will feature home goods, jewelry and accessories, art, pottery, apparel and gifts. If you’re looking for some holiday decorations, there will also be a wreath sale. Wreaths will be sold for $25 each and the proceeds benefit The Phinney Neighborhood Preschool Co-Op and scholarship fund.

Two stages at the event will showcase different bands playing a variety of music, including jazz, world and bluegrass.

You can also purchase snacks, espresso drinks or bake-sale items with cash or check. Those 21 and over can head to the Mimosas & More Garden for mimosas, mulled wine or beer in an outdoor space.

Pick up a festival passport and get it stamped at locations throughout the event for a chance to be entered in a raffle to win a goody bag with items crafted by some of the makers. You’ll also have the opportunity to enter to win a handmade quilt. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for six. Proceeds benefit Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) programs.
