Activities to stay warm or embrace the cold weather this weekend, Dec. 9-11, 2016.

1. Embrace the frigid weather

Head to Seattle Center’s Winterfest, which has an ice rink and ice sculpting, among other displays and performances.

If you’re really serious about embracing the elements, pack a tent and warm clothing and do some snow camping. We’ve got the basics on how to do that safely — and maybe even comfortably.

2. But do stay warm

We know just the thing to help: pho, a delightfully hearty soup-and-noodle dish, one of the staples of Vietnamese cuisine and a local favorite. Here’s a brief history and eater’s guide to pho in Seattle.

You can also get the very popular spiked eggnog at Sun Liquor this Saturday. If the past is any indication, it’ll sell out within a few hours — so start lining up early.

3. Watch an Oscar contender

Movie awards season is under way – and plenty of buzzy films are now in theaters, like “Manchester by the Sea,” “Moonlight” and “Loving.” (They all got rave reviews from our critics, too.)

4. Contemplate and learn more about race in America

Head to Saturday’s discussion about womanist theology and white fragility with Dr. Emilie Townes, dean of Vanderbilt Divinity School, and Dr. Robin DiAngelo, director of Equity for Sound Generations, Seattle/King County. You may also want to catch the community screening of “13th,” a documentary about race in the U.S. criminal justice system.

5. Watch the MLS Cup

For the first time ever, the Seattle Sounders will compete for the MLS championship this Saturday. Watch them battle Toronto FC for the MLS Cup at 5 p.m. PST at one of these local bars — or from home, on Q13 FOX.
