Obama announces new pledges for STEM (AP): Speaking at the White House Science Fair on Monday, President Obama announced two new philanthropic pledges for STEM education that total more than $240 million. The private-sector dollars include a $90 million campaign to expand STEM opportunities to underrepresented youth, such as minorities and girls and $150 million to help young scientists stay on track.

UW College of Education names new dean: Mia Tuan, a professor and former interim dean at the University of Oregon, has been named the next dean of the University of Washington College of Education. She replaces Tom Stritikus, who left the university for a job with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Congress addressing issues of student privacy (NPR): Both the House and Senate have drafted legislation concerning student data and individual rights to privacy and security.
