Debbie Nelsen, principal at Seattle’s Hazel Wolf K-8 School, has been awarded this year’s Thomas B. Foster Award For Excellence, earning her school $50,000 in cash.
The Alliance for Education, which administers the award, said Nelsen is a collaborative, consistent leader who helped Hazel Wolf launch its school-wide environmental science program.
The award is named after the late Thomas B. Foster, a Seattle attorney who founded the Foster Pepper law firm, and is given annually to an outstanding secondary-school principal in the Seattle school district. Nelsen became principal at Hazel Wolf in 2009.
