Heads up: A big week for economic reports. The Labor Department’s producer price index is out Tuesday and its consumer price index on Wednesday. Also scheduled Wednesday are March figures on housing starts, industrial production and the Federal Reserve’s “Beige Book” of regional economic conditions.

Monday: Microsoft hosts its Most Valuable Professionals this week (through Thursday) for the 2008 MVP Global Summit at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center. Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie and CEO Steve Ballmer are scheduled to speak Thursday.

Tuesday: Washington Mutual holds its annual meeting at 1 p.m. at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle. It will be the first chance for shareholders to confront management over the thrift’s rotten performance and recovery prospects. … March jobless rates for the state and region released. The February figures — 4.5 percent for the state and 3.6 percent for the Seattle area — were well below the U.S. average of 4.8 percent for February. The U.S. rate for March was 5.1 percent. … Gov. Christine Gregoire will deliver the opening keynote speech at 8:45 a.m. at the 2008 Washington State Technology Summit at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
