Heads up: A couple of reports on the housing market — the sector at the root of the credit crisis, which created the wild ride for stocks last week — are due out this week. On Wednesday, the National Association of Realtors releases figures on existing-home sales for August, and on Thursday the Commerce Department releases the August numbers on new-home sales. Few other major economic reports are scheduled, except for Thursday’s figures on durable-goods orders for August, and Friday, the second-quarter report on gross domestic product.

Monday: Governor’s Life Sciences Summit 2008 begins at 7:15 a.m. at McCaw Hall, Seattle Center. For three hours, participants will get an update on Life Science Discovery Fund activities, a review of progress toward the comprehensive plan for life sciences, a peek at five therapeutic advances in the pipeline in Washington and a panel discussion about priorities for 2009.
