The Super Bowl of the eSports (electronic sports) world is taking place this week in Seattle.
The event, called The International 7, will showcase 16 of the world’s best “Dota 2” teams, competing for a prize pool worth $24 million (and growing). Over the six days, teams will compete at KeyArena, playing the popular video game on a big screen while in-game sounds, music and commentary blast through the arena.
The game’s international popularity is all thanks to Valve — the Bellevue-based gaming company that created and released “Dota 2” in 2013. Get to know Valve CEO Gabe Newell, one of the most powerful figures in video gaming.
Besides “Dota 2” fans, the competitive video-game tournament has caught the attention of big media. Read how cable-television’s Turner Sports, came to Seattle to wrap up a documentary series that follows a few teams.
And watch the recaps (below) of The International tournament at the KeyArena.
