Starbucks and partner Tata Global Beverages said they are opening the first Starbucks cafe in Bangalore, in the heartland of India’s coffee’s industry, a sign that the coffee giant continues expanding in India one year after its initial investment there.

The 3,000-square-foot store, scheduled to open Saturday, is the thirtieth in the South Asian country, which Starbucks entered in late 2012 through a joint venture with a subsidiary of the Tata Group. Starbucks and Tata said that there will be two more stores in Bangalore by the end of the year.

“This important city entry demonstrates our long-term commitment to expand across India,” said Starbucks executive John Culver in a release.

Karnataka, the state where Bangalore is located, is one of India’s foremost coffee-growing regions. Starbucks says it is investing in roasting and producing Indian coffee, with the long-term goal of selling it abroad.

There are Starbucks locations in Mumbai, Deli, Pune and other Indian cities, and the company has said the country has potential to become one of its top five markets. For now, Starbucks is taking a “long-term, disciplined approach” to the timing and location of new stores, a company spokesman said.

In an earnings call in October, Starbucks Chief Executive Howard Schultz said that Indian customers’ response to the new stores “has been nothing short of amazing.”
