Schick Shadel Hospital, an addiction-treatment facility in Burien, has been acquired by Texas-based health care provider Ascend Health.

Schick’s CEO is James P. Graham, the owner of Palo Petroleum in Dallas, who had been treated there for alcoholism. He bought the hospital in 2002 with nine other former patients.

Ascend Health plans to add Schick Shadel addiction-treatment units to some of its facilities, including Mayhill Hospital in Denton, Texas, later this year.

Schick Schadel was founded in 1935 by two doctors who pioneered aversion therapy for alcoholism treatment. It took the Schick name in the1960s, after being bought by another former patient, Schick Safety Razor CEO William Frawley Jr.
