The second local site for New Seasons Market will open on Ballard Way in 2017.
Portland-based New Seasons Market said it would open its second grocery store in the Seattle area at a new development in Ballard.
The store is scheduled to open in the fall of 2017. The grocer, which specializes in regional food items, is also preparing to open a store on Mercer Island, its first in the area, this fall.
The 25,000-square-foot store will be at a new development between Northwest Ninth and Northwest 11th avenues, on Ballard Way. It will create 150 new jobs, the company said.
Established in 2000, New Seasons now has 18 stores in Oregon and California, and also operates five New Leaf Community Market locations in Northern California.
Its moves here come amid a shake-up of the Seattle area’s grocery market, with Albertsons retaking several locations that it had previously sold to now-struggling Haggen. In the higher end of the market, stores like Metropolitan Market are expanding in the Eastside suburbs, and Whole Foods picked Bellevue to test its new smaller store format, dubbed 365.
