Nordstrom is expanding its in-store boutique Space, the year-old brainchild of fashion commerce star Olivia Kim, to four more locations in Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto.

The boutique, which features emerging designers including Acne Studios, Simone Rocha and Vetements, is part of Nordstrom’s effort to entice fashion-forward buyers. At a time when department-store sales are sinking, Nordstrom is trying to sharpen its edge as a purveyor of exciting new fashions by creating spaces such as Space.

As part of that effort, it hired fashion buyer Olivia Kim in 2013.

Now Nordstrom’s vice president of creative projects, Kim has since created a series of temporary Pop-In@Nordstrom shops — tiny, temporary stores within stores that center on a theme or things that catch Kim’s fancy. This month, the Pop-In stores feature Vans.

And Kim started Space — which launched last year at Nordstrom stores in Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco and Vancouver, B.C. — and features art objects and bright pops of color amid the work of cutting-edge designers.

The Space boutiques at Nordstrom stores in Nashville and Los Angeles will open in August, according to the company. Nordstrom is opening its first two Toronto stores in September and October this year and both stores will open with a Space boutique.
