The state Department of Labor and Industries said Monday that premiums for workers’ compensation insurance will rise an average 3 percent in 2009.

Employers could see their own rates go up or down, depending on the claims history for the company and the industry it’s in.

The increase means average premiums will go up by about 2 cents per hour worked.
