Boeing Machinists will vote Saturday on the contract agreement reached yesterday between the union and the company. If they ratify it, Machinists will begin returning to work on Sunday night’s late shift, ending the strike after 58 days out.

The International Association of Machinists (IAM) leadership is recommending its 27,000 members accept the deal, which was worked out at talks in Washington D.C. yesterday.

The proposed new four-year contract limits the outsourcing of Boeing work to external vendors and offers job protection for some 5,000 workers in parts delivery and facilities maintenance.

However, the added compensation in the deal won’t make up the pay members lost during eight weeks on strike.
