Stocks are ending broadly lower on Wall Street, breaking a five-day winning streak for the S&P 500 index.
Technology companies posted some of the biggest losses Tuesday. Some banks rose after reporting results that beat analysts’ forecasts. Earnings reporting season is getting into full swing for U.S. companies.
On Tuesday:
The S&P 500 fell 10.26 points, or 0.3%, to 3,004.04.
The Dow fell 23.53 points, or 0.9%, to 27,335.63.
The Nasdaq composite fell 35.39 points, or 0.4%, to 8,222.80.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller company stocks rose 0.17 point, or 0.01%, to 1,562.00.
For the week:
The S&P 500 fell 9.73 points, or 0.3%.
The Dow rose 3.60 points, or 0.01%.
The Nasdaq fell 21.35 points, or 0.3%.
The Russell 2000 fell 8 points, or 0.5%.
For the year:
The S&P 500 is up 497.19 points, or 19.8%.
The Dow is up 4,008.17 points, or 17.2%.
The Nasdaq is up 1,587.52 points, or 23.9%.
The Russell 2000 is up 213.44 points, or 15.8%.
