Emeritus, a nationwide provider of assisted senior housing, reported a third-quarter loss of $23.1 million, or 59 cents a share, compared with a loss of $11.6 million, or 36 cents a share, in the same period last year.

The Seattle company said its revenue rose to $193 million from $135 million in last year’s comparable period.

Emeritus owned 149 communities and leased 106 as of Sept. 30, as well as managing 34 others. The company said its average occupancy rate slipped to 86.6 percent, from 87.2 percent a year earlier.
