Costco Wholesale has named Jeff Raikes, chief executive officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to its board of directors.

Raikes, who joined the foundation in September after more than 25 years at Microsoft, fills a newly created position on Costco’s board, bringing its total to 14.

Issaquah-based Costco operates 550 warehouse stores, including 403 in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. It reports financial results for the three-month period that ended Nov. 23 on Thursday.
