After much hype, Amazon’s new Treasure Truck delayed its first exclusive deal Saturday. The company has not said when the service will be available.
After days of hype and anticipation, Seattle-area shoppers hoping to wake up early Saturday morning and buy a $99 paddleboard from Amazon’s new Treasure Truck were met with a disappointing message.
“#TreasureTruck has moved its first offer to a later date. Thanks for following us and stay tuned,” the truck tweeted early Saturday morning.
“We are very sorry for the delay and are working hard to bring you treasure soon,” it said later in the morning. Similar messages were added to earlier posts on the truck’s Facebook page.
Shoppers eager to take advantage of the truck’s special deals were quick to take to social media, sharing their disappointment, questioning Amazon’s motives, speculating on what happened to the truck and asking when to expect the Treasure Truck to be up and running.

“ ‘What’s on the truck today?’ ” one person posted on Facebook. “Apparently nothing!”
Asked for an update on the Treasure Truck, Amazon spokeswoman Pia Arthur wrote in an email only that the company “moved our first offer to a later date.”
“We are working hard to bring customers Treasure Truck as soon as possible and apologize for the delay,” she said.
The truck, which looks like an Amazon package-shaped armored vehicle, is a new feature available through the Amazon Mobile Shopping app that will offer exclusive Amazon deals as it drives around King County.
When it does launch, Amazon has said it will have one item available per day, “several days a week,” that customers in the area can buy through the app, to be picked up at a predetermined location.
