“Fly Me to the Moon”

My attempt to photograph the micro full moon (the opposite of a supermoon, this occurs when the moon is near apogee in its orbit around earth) rising behind the city skyline was thwarted by the arrival of a new weather system. While taking pictures of other subjects as the sun set, I noticed that the moon eventually broke through the low clouds and a light airplane happened to pass in front of it while heading east.”

Center of Urban Horticulture wetlands, near Husky Stadium
2024/3/30

Herons are great. I came upon this heron at the Center of Urban Horticulture, he/she let me get pretty close and we bonded. It fished while I photographed. In the span of about an hour, it got a pretty good meal of 3 or 4 little fish. The Center is a lovely place to roam and see birdlife.

Tulip fields in Mount Vernon, WA
2024/4/2

I made an early morning drive to Mount Vernon to check out the tulip fields. The warmer spring temperatures this year has resulted in an early bloom. I could hear this little song sparrow long before I could spot it among the sea of tulip blooms. The photo was taken with a Canon EOS R7 camera and it is cropped to better see the sparrow. Happy spring!

I took this on my Fujifilm X-E2S with a 55-200mm lens. This was taken in the early morning before sunrise. It depicts the glow of the lamp lighting flowering cherry blossoms.

North Mountain Lookout, Skagit County
2024/3/13

We chose a fire lookout as our destination on was supposed to be a beautiful, clear day. The forecast didn’t quite work out like we hoped, but there’s more than one way to get a view. I snapped this photo with my Pixel 3 that barely works in cold weather unless it’s actively charging.

Seaview, WA

While in Ilwaco, we took a side trip to the beach at Seaview. We got there just as a large family piled out of their van. They had arrived from Idaho and none of them had ever seen or experienced an ocean shore before. They all ran in fully clothed and incredibly joyful to play in the water. One of the youngsters was on crutches, but that did not stop him.

Southport/Renton Lake Washington

2024/2/22

I was out for an afternoon walk on the lake. The clouds were spectacular in the blue sky. I was on a dock & spotted the kayaks approaching. Waited until one of them crossed into the cloud’s reflection. It looked like he was on an ice floe. Used iPhone 11 Pro.

Taken at 7:27am, glassy lake and a fog bank across the far shore. The light was changing rapidly from cool blues to fiery reds and oranges – this was near the peak. The Madrona Beach swimming platform seemed to float in the reflected sky.
