Marina Hydeman, (l) a UW grad student and instructor at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island, leads students over the 190’ long suspension bridge at IslandWood during a hike Wednesday, February 2, 2022. The hike is just one of the activities at the School Overnight Program they are attending.

The kids arrived Tuesday and will stay through until Thursday. That is the traditional program length of the School Overnight Program.

They are a mix of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders and are from Lake Quinault.

Over the three day period, the students do a whole variety of things – check out the garden where they will taste plants growing there and bake bread, hang out at the pond and learn about macroinvertebrates, and hike on the trails and on the camp’s suspension bridge as well as climb the 120’ canopy tower.

Each instructor sets their plan for the day based on their own group and the previous day’s work
