Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and partners are committed to preserving and conserving Washington’s biodiversity. Fishers, a house-cat sized member of the weasel family, were nearly lost from our state’s biodiversity. For 20 years, WDFW and partners have worked together to release fishers in an effort to restore the native species to Washington. Monitoring efforts suggest released animals are establishing themselves and reproducing throughout the Olympic Peninsula and in the Cascade Mountains from near Mount Adams to Mount Baker, and that they have begun to reproduce. Fund the protection of wildlife and habitat for all Washingtonians | Op-Ed

The state Legislature must respond to the reality that plants and animals are going extinct, and the rate of these losses is accelerating rapidly.

The peak of the run is expected to be the first two weeks of July with a total around 96,000 returning from the Pacific Ocean to fresh water beginning at the locks, then Lake Washington and the Cedar River watershed. The returning salmon are only one out of every 1,000 eggs that make it full circle. Tours begin at the visitor center at 1 pm and 3 pm, Monday through Friday, and at 11a.m., 1 p.m. and 3pm on weekends. The run began two weeks ago.
