    A great blue heron rises up from a nest in the Commodore Park colony. This Saturday from 11 am until 1 pm there will be a heron chick birthday party in the park with scopes and naturalists on hand as Heron Habitat Helpers (CQ) keep watch.

    There are fish to be caught in Victor Steinbrueck Park and no hooks on the lines as a passerby ducks out of the way in a fly casting school by Orvis.    Led by instructor David Spratt, classes continue through June each Saturday.   In the background is the cruise ship Norwegian Bliss at Pier 66, preparing for a trip to Alaska.

    Pike Place Market bursts with bouquets for Mother’s Day VIEW

    Jackie Wyer says goodbye to Patrick Van der Ziijden, skipper of the Zhuhai, one of ten 70-foot ocean yachts departing Seattle on the next leg of the Clipper Round The World Race.  They’ll cover 40,000 nautical miles and be in Panama in about one-month.
Patrick Van der Ziijden has logged more than 200,000 nautical miles sailing.   He’s Dutch.  Wyer was a crew member on the yacht.

The object of the game to join four discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally.    The game has been sold since 1974 by the Milton Bradley company.

    It’s cross-cultural attire as Mariner Moose, in mascot attire, meets Kyoko Matsuda, seated, in a traditional kimono, at the stage where she’ll be doing a tea ceremony in Fisher Pavilion at the Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival.   The moose is promoting Japanese Heritage Day at T-Mobile Park when the M’s play Cleveland on August 28.   The festival continues Sunday at Seattle Center.

(The M’s will donate $3 to $5 of every ticket that day to the Japanese Cultural Community Center of Washington)
