PULLMAN — Washington State football senior kicker Andrew Furney has been named one of 30 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision student-athletes selected as candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in college football.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Furney is a double major in marketing and finance at WSU. He entered his senior year with a 3.26 GPA and is expected to graduate in May. In 2012 he was a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable-mention selection. He has participated in a number of special class projects, including Clean Cause, where they developed a non-profit organizational business plan for water sanitation distribution in Moldova; conducted a survey and analyzed data of Sports Apparel being Part of Your Personal Identity, to name just a few.
Furney enters his final season among the school’s top five in career field goals made (currently fourth), most 50-plus-yard field goals (tied for third), career field-goal percentage (second) and career points (fifth).
