Michael Monda’s infield single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Patrick McGrath to give host Washington State a 6-5 baseball victory over California on Sunday.

The Cougars (15-13, 6-3 Pac-12) swept the three-game series with the Golden Bears (14-15, 3-6). It was the first sweep of a conference opponent by Washington State since 2010 at home against USC.

Nick Tanielu had two hits and two runs batted in for WSU. Trek Stemp and Ben Roberts also had two hits each.

Host Sacramento State (20-11, 9-0 Western Athletic) beat Seattle University 4-3 to complete the weekend sweep. Connor Moore allowed only two earned runs in seven innings for the Redhawks (11-15, 3-3).

• San Diego (22-9, 9-3 West Coast) beat host Gonzaga 5-1 to complete a weekend sweep. Jimmy Sinatro drove in the only run for the Bulldogs (10-21, 6-6).


Western Washington (22-10) lost 6-0 to Sonoma State in the semifinals of the Gold Bracket at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.

Women’s golf

Washington finished tied for second at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe. The Huskies fired a final round of 4-under 284 to finish the weekend at 5-under 859.

South Carolina took the tournament title, finishing at 11 under. Arizona State and Duke tied UW for second. Washington State (917) was 15th.

Ying Luo shot a 3-under 69 to finish tied for 20th at 2-over for the Huskies. Washington’s top overall finisher was Jennifer Yang (72), who tied for eighth at 2 under.

WOMEN’S Rowing

Washington finished second in varsity eight and second in second varsity eight at the San Diego Crew Classic. USC won varsity eight, claiming the Jessop-Whittier Cup, and Washington State was third. California won the second varsity eight and WSU was fourth.

Men’s tennis

Host Washington (10-10, 1-3 Pac-12) lost 4-2 to Utah.

Women’s tennis

Washington (11-8, 1-7 Pac-12) beat host Oregon 4-1.
