PULLMAN — Washington State freshman Dawnyelle Awa hit key free throws — first to send the Cougars’ game against Oregon State into overtime and then to give her team the lead with 30 seconds left in the extra period — as WSU earmed a 76-73 win over Oregon State on Saturday.
Awa, in her first collegiate start, tied the game at 63 with 37 seconds left in regulation. After the Cougars (6-13, 2-6 Pac-12) trailed by six with 1:41 left in overtime, Awa capped a comeback by hitting two free throws to earn a 74-73 lead, then WSU’s defense held off the Beavers (9-11, 3-5).
Lia Galdeira scored a game-high 22 points and Mariah Cooks added a career-high 16 points for the Cougars, while Awa had seven.
