By the Numbers
2 Two pairs of quarterback brothers will start today the first time that has happened in NFL history. Everyone knows about the Mannings Peyton in Indianapolis and Eli with the New York Giants. The lesser-known duo is the McCowns. Josh returns to his starting spot for Arizona, and Luke will make his second straight start for Cleveland.
4 Peyton Manning needs just four TD passes to tie Dan Marino’s record of 48, set in 1984.
4 Four divisions can be won today. With wins, Atlanta can clinch the NFC South, Indianapolis the AFC South and Pittsburgh the AFC North. New England can win the AFC East if the Patriots win and the New York Jets lose to Pittsburgh.
16 Philadelphia kicker David Akers has 16 field goals of at least 40 yards, tied for the most in an NFL season.
Game of the Day
N.Y. Jets at Pittsburgh, 1:05 p.m., Channel 7
Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers’ rookie quarterback, looks to win his 11th straight game and knock off a team led by a former Marshall quarterback for the second week in row. Last week, Roethlisberger one-upped Byron Leftwich by rallying Pittsburgh to a last-minute victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. This week, Big Ben will have to top Chad Pennington. The Steelers can win the AFC North by beating the Jets, and the Jets can secure a playoff spot if they win. This game also features Curtis Martin (Jets) and Jerome Bettis (Steelers), two of the top six rushers in league history. Martin has 12,974 yards, six fewer than Bettis.
