EVERETT — Shorewood is still unbeaten, but this victory was anything but easy.


Rob Diederichs scored a game-high 19 and the Shorewood Thunderbirds edged Mariner 52-49 in a WesCo South Division boys basketball game last night.


Shorewood is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in WesCo South.


It was a see-saw game, and Justin Kramer hit a three-pointer to tie it with about three minutes for Mariner. The Marauders (2-1, 1-1) missed a shot to tie with six seconds to go, then grabbed the offensive rebound and got off another shot. It also missed.


Diederichs hit two three-pointers for Shorewood.


Aaron Cartwright led Mariner with 18 points, hitting 9 of 9 free throws, and Tommy Craddock scored eight of his 13 in the fourth quarter, and also pulled down 11 rebounds (five of them offensive), had a block, three steals and took two charges.

At Kamiak 58, Everett 48


Billy Johnson and Rahiti Marere each scored 13 to lead a balanced offense for the Knights (2-1, 1-1) in WesCo South.


Sean Hermes added 12 for Kamiak. Bryce Levin scored 12 for Everett (2-1, 1-1).




At Jackson 75, Shorecrest 67


Drew Eisinger scored a team-high 28, offsetting 31 by Jon Moe 31, as the Timberwolves (2-1, 1-1) won in WesCo South. The Scots (0-2, 0-2) also had 10 points from Chris Lindsey. Brian Rucker added 10 for Jackson.




At Snohomish 63, Marysville-Pilchuck 60


Jon Brockman, a 6-foot-7 senior, had 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers (1-2, 1-1) beat the Tomahawks (2-3, 1-1) in WesCo North for their first victory.


Jared Stohl, a sophomore guard, scored 18 to lead M-P. Duane Lanphere added 15 and Keaton Taitingfong 13 for the Tomahawks. Nate Van Duine added 12 for Snohomish.




At Mount Vernon 60, Monroe 33


The No. 11 Bulldogs’ defense held the Bearcats to 12 for 61 shooting (19.6 percent) to win in WesCo North. Mount Vernon (3-1, 2-0) trailed 15-8 after the first quarter, but outscored Monroe 52-18 the rest of the way.


Ryan Kendrick led three Mount Vernon players in double figures with 14. Justin Burns added 13, and Jake Moore had 10. Evan Curlin’s 11 points led Monroe (1-1, 1-1).




Cascade 59, at Oak Harbor 48


Chris Hilliard scored a game-high 27 points, and the Bruins (1-2, 1-1) overcame an 18-7 first-quarter deficit to keep the Wildcats (0-4, 0-1) winless.


Marc Ferguson led Oak Harbor with 21 points, and Chris Hughes added 14.


Sean Carter added 12 for Cascade, which erupted for an 18-8 advantage in the second period.




At Stanwood 65, Lake Stevens 48


Guard Daes Kaufman made his season debut with 28 points, 17 in a 26-point fourth quarter, to lead the Spartans (1-3, 1-0) to their first victory of the season.


Kurt Schrieber scored 16 to lead Lake Stevens (1-3, 1-1), which led 30-24 at halftime, but was outscored 41-18 after intermission.
