The flurry of recruiting news continued for Washington on Wednesday with new coach Chris Petersen reeling in one of the highest-rated high-school prospects of his career.
Four-star quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels out of Bellarmine Prep in San Jose, Calif., and three-star running back Jomon Dotson of American Canyon, Calif., both announced their intent to sign with the Huskies on the Feb. 5 national signing day.
Carta-Samuels, listed at 6 feet 4, 207 pounds, is rated by Scout.com as the 23rd-best quarterback prospect in the country. He is the 10th recruit to commit to UW since Petersen took over on Dec. 9 — and the first four-star recruit for this class. Petersen signed just four four-star recruits in eight seasons as the head coach at Boise State, including two junior-college transfers.
Carta-Samuels chose UW over Boise State and Vanderbilt, making his announcement on Twitter while also pitching Bellevue star Budda Baker to join him at UW. Baker has narrowed his choices to UW and UCLA, and likely won’t make his announcement until Feb. 5.
