Dec. 8, 2008: Sarkisian is introduced as Washington’s head coach. “It’s the year 2008, it’s about time to get back to the Rose Bowl, to Pac-10 championships, competing for a national championship, that’s our goal, no question,” Sarkisian said. “I can’t wait to get this thing going.”
Sept. 19, 2009: Huskies shock No. 3-ranked USC, coached by Pete Carroll, 16-13 for Sarkisian’s first big win as Washington’s coach. They entered the AP Top 25 poll the next day for the first time since 2003. Sarkisian finished his UW career 3-6 against top-10 teams.
Dec. 30, 2010: Huskies upset Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl, 19-7, to finish 7-6, the school’s first winning record since 2002 and a huge turnaround from a 56-21 Cornhuskers win over Washington in Seattle in September. It was UW’s first bowl win since the 2001 Rose Bowl, and Sarkisian’s only bowl-game victory with the Huskies.
Nov. 26, 2011: UW defeats WSU 38-21 in the Apple Cup to finish the regular season 7-5, the school’s first winning regular season since 2002. Sarkisian finished 4-1 against rival Washington State.

Dec. 29, 2011: UW loses to Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and Baylor 67-56. A few days later, the Huskies fired defensive coordinator Nick Holt and two other defensive coaches, eventually hiring Justin Wilcox as defensive coordinator.
Sept. 27, 2012: UW defeats No. 7-ranked Stanford 17-13 for Sarkisian’s only win against the Cardinal in five tries.
Oct. 12, 2013: No. 2-ranked Oregon defeats the Huskies 45-24 in a game highlighted by an appearance by ESPN’s “GameDay” show, the first time it had originated from Washington. It is UW’s ninth straight loss to the Ducks, with Sarkisian finishing 0-5 against Oregon, each loss by at least 17 points.
Friday: UW defeats Washington State in the Apple Cup 27-17 in Sarkisian’s final game as Washington’s head coach. UW finished the regular season 8-4, its most regular-season wins since the 2001 team went 8-3. Sarkisian finished his UW career with a 34-29 record.
Monday: Sarkisian is announced as the new head coach at USC.
