Age: 80, born Dec. 31, 1932, in Massillon, Ohio

High school: Washington HS in Massillon, Ohio. James was a quarterback and defensive back, leading his team to two state championships.

College: Received B.S. in Education from University of Miami (Fla.) in 1954. Set five passing records for Hurricanes. Won award as Miami’s top scholar-athlete. Master’s degree in Education from Kansas in 1957.

Personal: Survived by his wife Carol, also a native of Massillon and a graduate of Miami, and three children
