One down, one to go.
The Washington men’s basketball team added junior-college transfer Quevyn Winters, which fills one of the two openings on its roster.
The 6-foot-6 guard, who played one year at Duquesne in 2012-13 and starred last season at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa), signed scholarship papers with the Huskies on Wednesday. He’ll have two years of eligibility at UW.
“We’re excited to add Quevyn to our program,” Washington coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement released by the school. “He’ll bring a multitude of intangibles to Seattle as a kid who has a history of winning. He’s already played Division I basketball and averaged almost 10 points as a freshman at Duquesne before playing in the junior-college national-championship game for Indian Hills.

“He’s a very good shooter with a lot of experience, and we’re delighted to have him.”
Winters was a co-captain at Indian Hills CC and helped the Warriors to a 34-3 record last season. He averaged 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.8 turnovers while starting 26 of 33 games.
He also shot 40.5 percent (138 of 341) from the field, 33.7 percent (60 of 178) on three-pointers and 72.7 percent (56 of 77) on free throws.
“I’m a slasher, I’m a shooter (and) I can rebound,” Winters said Tuesday during a telephone interview. “I’m like a big rebounding guard. But I think the best thing I can do is shoot.”
The Huskies still have one remaining scholarship and are looking to bring in a big man to replace junior forward Desmond Simmons, who decided to transfer.
The spring signing period, which began Wednesday, ends May 21.
