What happened: The team held its first full-pads practice of the season at Husky Stadium. Washington coach Tyrone Willingham said he was eager to see the team finally do some real hitting. “It’s amazing that all of a sudden, that ball is there and there’s a chance you might kind of get smacked,” he said. “Now we get to see the guys play the real game.”

Savannah’s grades in question? Willingham said weakside linebacker E.J. Savannah of Bellevue High was demoted to the second team because of “something with school.” Asked if Savannah was academically eligible, Willingham said only, “We’re working on that.” Savannah was vague when asked earlier in the week why he thought he’d been demoted to second team behind Chris Stevens. Willingham said the issue should be settled by the opener at Syracuse on Aug. 31.

QBs shaking off rust: After declaring that the passing game looked a little rusty on the first day of practice Sunday, Willingham said there has been continual improvement. “Both of them [Jake Locker and Carl Bonnell] are improving,” he said. “We have gotten better and continue to get better.” He reiterated that Locker remains No. 1 on the depth chart.

What’s next: The Huskies will conduct their first of six scheduled two-a-days.
