Josh Heard scored both goals as third-ranked Washington earned a 2-0 shutout of Seattle University on Tuesday, spoiling the first night men’s soccer match at Championship Field.

The Huskies, who ended their nonconference schedule, improved to 8-0-3. The Redhawks fell to 2-8-1.


Matt Pufahl scored two goals and Austin Lotz made 20 saves as the Everett Silvertips earned a 2-1 victory at Red Deer.

Women’s golf

• Stanford shot 7-under 569 to take a 21-shot lead over host Washington in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club. Gonzaga is eighth at 29 over and Washington State is 13th at 62-over 638.

Stanford’s Mariko Tumangan leads at 7-under 137, one shot ahead of teammate Mariah Stackhouse. The Huskies’ SooBin Kim is fifth at 145.

• Host Western Washington placed 12th at the Viking Women’s Golf Invitational at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. The Vikings shot 320 for a 36-hole total of 633.

Men’s golf

• Washington State finished second at the Firestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club’s North Course in Akron, Ohio.

The Cougars shot a 5-over 293 in the final round to finish at 9-over 873, two strokes behind South Carolina-Aiken.

• Seattle University finished seventh (31-over 895) at the Cabo del Sol Intercollegiate in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico. Freshman Patrick Sato tied for third at 2-over 218.

• Former Mariner Erik Hanson of Kirkland lost to Dan Sullivan of Pasadena, Calif., on the 19th hole in the round of 32 at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Country Club of Birmingham (Ala).
