CORRECTION: Tuesday’s FYI Guy got it wrong. The column looked at the NFL’s advertising claim that nine months after the Super Bowl, birthrates rise in the winning team’s city.
Due to our miscalculation regarding the gestation period, the FYI Guy incorrectly found that King County’s birthrate dipped slightly after the Seahawks’ Feb. 2, 2014, win. But that conclusion was reached using data from November 2014.
Instead, the due dates for Seattle Super Bowl babies occurred late in the month of October, which saw a slight uptick over the previous year, supporting the NFL’s theory about a Super Bowl baby boom.
