SUMNER — Savannah Palomarez hit the game-winning jumper with 16 seconds left as Sumner beat Kent-Meridian 42-38 to remain unbeaten.


Palomarez finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (5-0, 2-0). Stephanie Rider had 17 points and 11 rebounds.


Na’Keta Preston had eight points for the Royals (1-3, 0-2). Jessica Duran and LaShawn Henderson each scored seven points.


Sumner outscored Kent-Meridian 19-7 in the second quarter to take a 22-13 halftime lead. But the Royals rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Spartans 14-8.
