VANCOUVER, B.C. – Kenny Miller scored on a penalty kick in the 58th minute, leading the unbeaten Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-1 Major League Soccer victory over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.
Jordan Harvey had Vancouver’s first goal in the 14th minute in front of a sellout crowd of 21,000 at BC Place.
Miller rolled his spot kick into the right corner of the net, lifting the Whitecaps (2-0-2) to a 2-0 lead.
“I don’t think you could ask for much more (to start the season),” Miller said.

Miller had to retake his crucial kick because teammate Darren Mattocks was still in the 18-yard area when he put the ball into the net. The penalty kick was awarded after Houston’s Kofi Sarkodie was called for a hand ball in the area in the 56th minute.
Harvey gave the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead when he bounced Andy O’Brien’s header past Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall.
The play originated off a long cross from the left flank by Pedro Morales.

Dom Dovale scored in stoppage time as defending champion Sporting Kansas City rallied past Colorado.
Dovale was a late-match substitution. Benny Feilhaber of Sporting Kansas City tied the score in the 79th minute.
Graham Zusi scored and Sal Zizzo added two assists for Sporting.
Vincente Sanchez of the Rapids scored two goals, both on penalty kicks.
At FC Dallas 2, Timbers 1
Mauro Diaz scored in the 84th minute as league-leading FC Dallas (3-0-1) beat Portland.
Blas Perez scored for the hosts in first-half stoppage time.
The Timbers (0-1-3) got an own goal in the 66th minute.
Portland’s Michael Harrington and Dallas’ Je-Vaughn Watson were ejected for an off-the-ball fight late in the first half.
Fire 2, at D.C. United 2
Quincy Amarikwa’s goal in the 82nd minute lifted Chicago into a soggy draw against D.C. United.
United (0-2-1) extended its team-record winless streak in league play to 15 matches.
Ex-Sounders player Jhon Kennedy Hurtado scored in the 27th minute for the Fire.
Fabian Espindola and Perry Kitchen scored for D.C. United.

Marco Di Vaio scored in the 80th minute as Montreal earned a draw with Philadelphia. Vincent Nogueira scored for the Union.
