Sounders midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz continued his strong preseason with two goals and a hockey assist as Seattle topped the L.A. Galaxy 4-0 on Wednesday in a preseason scrimmage at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Ivanschitz scored in the 23rd and 57th minutes, sandwiching a 27th-minute free kick that was pushed forward via Brad Evans’ back heel and smashed into the net by Chad Marshall.

Seattle opened the match in its new 4-3-3 formation. Rookie Jordan Morris, who notched a pair of assists on the night, replaced China-bound Obafemi Martins on the wing next to Nelson Valdez and Clint Dempsey.

The match was played in the wake of a driving rainstorm that left the field waterlogged, puddles on the sideline. Players, wary of injuries ahead of their respective CONCACAF Champions League matchups next week, pulled out of tackles and kept things simple.

The Sounders, 0-3-0 in this preseason against professional opposition entering Wednesday, broke the game open via those quick-strike first-half goals and Dempsey’s finish of a Morris feed early in the second. Morris set up Ivanschitz’s second goal, as well, with another driving run and well-placed cutback.

Seattle hosts Mexican powerhouse club Club America in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday at CenturyLink Field.
