Spring has officially arrived, but winter weather is still staking its claim on the Cascade hillsides.

Freezing temperatures will remain in the forecast as a weak weather system is expected to bring off-and-on snow showers through Saturday night mainly to the northern Cascade region.

The snow pack continues to soar, especially at ski resorts in the convergence zone like Mount Baker that received a whopping 35 inches this week, and Stevens Pass and The Summit at Snoqualmie where 8 to 10 inches fell the past two days.

The early winter season drought is now just a nightmare in the rearview mirror as Mount Baker claims the biggest snowfall total in North America with 467 inches. Stevens also sits at a healthy 420 inches, followed by White Pass with 318 to 391 inches and Crystal with 297 inches.

This week, save 90% on digital access.

Change will come soon for skiers and snowboarders with partly cloudy skies and peek-a-boo views of sunshine expected by Sunday and through early next week. That means sun block and shades will be essential gear to pack along when hitting the slopes.
