PORTLAND — Torrie Wheat scored a goal as the Everett Silvertips skated to a 1-1 tie with the Portland Winter Hawks last night in a Western Hockey League game at the Rose Garden.


Everett’s record against Portland this season is 4-1-2. The Silvertips (18-10-5-2) are second in the U.S. Division with 42 points.


Wheat scored early in the first period on a power play for his 14th goal of the season. Earning assists were Michael Wuchterl and Alex Leavitt.


Everett goaltender Mike Wall stopped 35 of 36 Winter Hawks shots.


Scoring in the third period for Portland was Alex Aldred, with assists from Brandon Dubinsky and Cody McLeod.


Winter Hawks goalie Dustin Butler made 19 saves on 20 shots.


The Silvertips return to action Dec. 28 against the Spokane Chiefs at the Everett Events Center. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
