KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Seattle University’s Sylvia Shephard had 16 points and 10 rebounds while becoming the 14th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, but the Redhawks lost 77-65 Sunday afternoon to Missouri-Kansas City.

Kansas City (5-10, 1-1 Western Athletic Conference) jumped to an 8-0 lead over the first 2½ minutes. The Kangaroos increased their lead to 26-6 with 8:23 left in the first half, and Seattle U never fully recovered.

The Redhawks (6-9, 1-1 WAC) closed to 35-26 at halftime and got within six points four times in the second half. But each time, Missouri-Kansas City responded.

Kacie Sowell had 23 points and eight rebounds for Seattle U, which returns home for the first time since Dec. 14 to host New Mexico State on Thursday.

Eilise O’Connor scored 23 points to lead the Kangaroos.
