What happened

The Seahawks put on pads for the second time and held a scrimmage. Players weren’t allowed to tackle, but the first- and second-team offenses and defenses squared off. For what it’s worth, the second-team offense won with a last-second field goal from Steven Hauschka.

The spotlight

Phil Bates, Seattle’s 6-foot-1, 220-pound receiver, hauled in two catches along the sideline with defenders draped over his back. Bates, in his second year, is fighting for one of the final receiving spots on the roster. He showed the physical style the Seahawks want from him toward the end of the scrimmage.
