Jason Jones played just one season with Seattle
Jason Jones didn’t go very far in free agency.
Not when you consider that he’s from Detroit and played at Eastern Michigan. The defensive lineman — who played last season for Seattle — signed Wednesday with the Lions, his hometown franchise.
Jones was signed by Seattle a year ago, added for a one-year contract at more than $4 million. He was used as a situational pass-rusher, playing tackle on third downs. He played 12 games, totaled three sacks and was placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in December.
His stay in Seattle turned out to be temporary.

“The idea was for me to be a free agent again this year,” Jones said after being introduced as a Lion, according to the Detroit Free Press. “It just so happened that the Lions were open.”
That’s in part because of the departure of the player Seattle appears poised to sign: Cliff Avril. He has been one of the Lions’ top pass-rushers, totaling 29 sacks over the past three seasons.
Jones received a three-year contract in Detroit, according to his agent. He will play for coach Jim Schwartz and defensive-line coach Jim Washburn, both of whom were on the Titans’ coaching staff when Tennessee drafted Jones in the second round in 2008.
gets a bonus
There was no bigger bargain in the NFL last season than quarterback Russell Wilson. Seattle’s rookie quarterback was so good, in fact, he got himself a bonus of $222,000 from the league’s rookie performance bonus pool. That bonus was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Linebacker Vontaze Burfict, undrafted coming out of Arizona State, reportedly received the largest rookie performance bonus, getting $299,465 for his first season with the Bengals.
