STAR OF THE DAY: Rookie receiver Michael Bumpus is doing his best to hold on to every ball in hopes he’ll grab a roster spot. The receiver from Washington State had another impressive day, excelling in a seven-on-seven passing drill. He made an especially nice diving catch behind linebacker D.D. Lewis.
SEEING RED: Logan Payne is wearing a red jersey, denoting he is not to be hit, a precaution taken to protect his broken ribs. Don’t say there’s no contact, though. Payne leaped to catch a pass behind cornerback Kevin Hobbs, falling down after he caught the ball.
MAD ABOUT MADDEN: Safety C.J. Wallace is one player who’s planning to take a look at a copy of the Madden 2009 video game, which went on sale Tuesday. Wallace hadn’t heard what his player ratings were like. “Hopefully they didn’t do me too bad,” Wallace said. “I know it’s my first year. We’ll see.”
CENTER STAGE: Steve Vallos was a tackle in college, who moved to guard as a rookie on the practice squad and now is center by default with Chris Spencer still injured and Chris Gray retired. Vallos appears to be aching a little, too, as he practiced Tuesday with his left knee taped up.
