FORT WORTH, Texas — Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant said Monday he regrets leaving the field with 1:21 left in Sunday’s 37-36 loss to Green Bay, but he didn’t want to cry on the sideline in front of a national TV audience.
Bryant, speaking during one of the Cowboys’ four hospital visits at Cook Children’s before later holding court in the team’s locker room at Valley Ranch, said he went inside the AT&T Stadium locker room and cried after the game.
Bryant left the field after quarterback Tony Romo threw his second fourth-quarter interception to ensure the Packers would win by taking a knee three times to complete a 23-point second-half rally.
“I was wrong, but I wasn’t looking at it in that kind of way. It didn’t have anything to do with my teammates,” Bryant said. “I just couldn’t watch Green Bay kneel it down after a loss like that.”

Asked if he just got caught up in an emotional moment, Bryant said it was “very emotional.”
“I cried when I got into the locker room, and I didn’t want to show that obviously on the sideline,” Bryant said.
“I’m a team guy. I extremely, extremely apologize for leaving, but my teammates and coaches understand. I’m a very emotional player, and we didn’t finish.
Bryant was as candid Monday as any Cowboys player has been all season in an otherwise empty locker room, standing and admitting he was wrong.
Garrett pulled Bryant aside Monday and talked to him about leaving the field early. Both said there will be no fine or discipline.
Shanahan won’t quit, says Griffin ‘clearly’ starter
ASHBURN, Va. — Mike Shanahan said he has no plans to resign, then reminded everyone that he might not be back as coach of the Washington Redskins.
He then cryptically offered a picture of the possible changes that might be in store if he does return. He dropped Gary Kubiak’s name twice, stoking questions that there might be a new offensive coordinator. He also said that Robert Griffin III is “clearly” the starting quarterback but would welcome “legitimate competition” from Kirk Cousins.
Just another day in the world of the Redskins.
Shanahan said Monday it was “accurate” that he doesn’t plan to quit after what will be his third losing season in four years. The Redskins (3-11) have lost six straight, and the coach has one year remaining on his five-year, $35 million contract.
• Rex Ryan’s tenure as coach of the New York Jets could be in its final weeks.
Keep Rex or Fire Rex? Well, that depends on who you ask.
There’s one guy, though, who thinks the Jets (6-8) already have the right man to lead them beyond this season.
“Of course, I believe it,” Ryan said. “No question, I believe it. There’s no doubt, but again I’d rather get out of this news conference and go to work. That’s how I feel about it.”
• The toe injury sustained by Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton against the Jets on Sunday was “not that big a deal,” coach Ron Rivera said Monday.
Newton injured his toe at the end of a 7-yard scramble on the Panthers’ final offensive play of the first half, and was taken into the locker room before halftime to be examined.
Newton did not undergo X-rays on the toe, and Rivera said it is not being characterized as “turf toe.”
• Miami’s Richie Incognito will remain suspended until an NFL investigation into his situation is completed, the Dolphins announced. The NFL has said that will not be until after the season.
