Rob Diederichs, Shorewood boys basketball
Diederichs, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, led the Thunderbirds to a pair of impressive victories in WesCo South Division play. He piled up 28 points, eight rebounds and five steals as Shorewood pulled off a 51-48 upset of Mountlake Terrace, then ranked No. 2 in the state. He followed with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 52-49 win over Mariner.
Christina Nzekwe, Chief Sealth girls basketball
Nzekwe, a 6-foot-4 sophomore forward, put together a quadruple-double in a lopsided victory over West Seattle, with 10 points, 10 assists, 12 steals and 17 rebounds as the top-ranked Seahawks improved to 4-0. She also had six points, 10 rebounds and six steals in a 53-36 win over a solid Seattle Prep team.
Decatur boys swim team
The Gators, coached by Rick Dennison, recorded eight state-qualifying times in cruising past Jefferson, last year’s Class 4A state champion, 118-68. Eric Matulich, Eric Johnson and Seamus Alger each had a pair of state-qualifying times and were part of two relays with state marks.
