Washington State’s football season opener at Brigham Young has been moved up two days to Thursday night, Aug. 30, to accommodate a telecast by ESPN at 7:15 (PDT). The game marks the WSU debut of coach Mike Leach, who returns to college football after a two-year hiatus.

Earlier, the Cougars’ game at UNLV was moved up one day to Friday, Sept. 14, for an ESPN showing.


Washington picked up its eighth shutout victory of the season, setting down Portland 3-0 on Wednesday at Husky Ballpark. Robert Pehl was 2 for 2 and Caleb Brown went 2 for 3 for Washington (27-21)
